Former Walpole football coach released on bail in rape case
By Globe Staff
The former Walpole High School football coach who is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl was released from jail today.
Daniel Villa, 44, met his $7,500 bail and was released after a hearing in Wrentham District Court, an assistant court clerk said this afternoon.
Villa will be monitored by a GPS system. He surrendered an expired passport and was ordered not to apply for, or obtain, a new one, said Norfolk district attorney’s spokesman David Traub.
Villa, a 44-year-old married father of four from Walpole, is a former Patriots lineman who led the Walpole team earlier last month to a victory in the Division II Super Bowl at Gillette Stadium. Traub said Villa gave the court a new address, not one where he’s lived before.
In a hearing last week, a judge also ordered Villa to have no contact with the victim or her family and no contact with any children under 16 except his own. District Court Judge Warren Powers slated another hearing for Jan. 28.
Villa's attorney, Heather Baer, didn't have a comment on the case but said she wanted the media to "give him some distance and his family some distance."
Walpole School Superintendent Lincoln Lynch III said today that Villa, who resigned both as football coach and athletic director, has been replaced as athletic director for the rest of the school year by Jim Erker, a retired long-time cross country coach and history teacher who served as athletic director from 1998 to 2006.

His new address is going to be MCI-Walpole!
Mr Villa, you are scum. Enjoy the fresh air while you have the chance, because ACI-Walpole doesn't smell good.
Don't get me wrong, it doesn't look good for him.
But give me a break, these issues are he said, she said at best, providing conclusive evidence.
Everyone always thinks that the guy is guilty.
Maybe he is, but there is much more to this case then meets the eye.
Only time will tell.
freaky!
doughenry: right on!!! MUCH MUCH MORE to the story AND of course there could be no twisted tales by the 'little girl'??? I don't want to hear this crap about 500 txt msgs, give me a break,,,,,who started what, oh that's right NOBODY knows yet but what the media says from the little girl and her parents wonderful support team privy to the WHS/and Town for that matter . I have a hard time analyzing the already-released-so-called-FACTS that exactly 500 txts were sent by HIM,,,,,,,She's got problems ,, DV looks as if he's being very patient w/the destruction of his life, guess it shows that he really isn't a monster,,,there's been no he-said so far, it's all she-said and "what-media-wants-to-hear-said!" I think the local departments know they JUMPED a bit too ..quick because of a push from someone:) It'll all come out
He is 44 and what is he doing with a teeager anyway, shame on him and I
hope his children going to be alright after all this.
Should we name him Chester Villa
Neither disgusted nor doug knows the evidence; only the people involved do, as it should be. And "guess it shows that he really isn't a monster" -- yeah, that or he has a very skilled DA.
"Everyone always thinks the guy is guilty"? Obviously not, you don't seem to.
People don't just get off on charging grown men for rape of young girls. Let's let the justice system do its work.
pgene: never said i knew evidence, actually said i had a hard time understanding released-to-media-so-called-FACTS which are obviously from one side of the puzzle. that's all! what's your gripe? you part of the investigating team which shouldn't have taken it into their own hands to bring it to this when if so tragic, should have been handled by professionals from the beginning,,,,bet all of you are a bit taken back. should be! disgraceful
Anyone asking what the 15 year old is doing with the 44 year old? (instead of vice versa)This was consentual, afterall, despite the media's inability to use the word "statutory" in any of their stories. Also, where the hell were the parents this whole time? Laid out on ambien? What gives with that angle of the story? Legal or illegal, whatever happened to reporting?
His wife left him and filed for divorce. That is damning testimony.
i wonder if it was good for him?
