Officer chases, arrests Everett bank robbery suspect
By Brian R. Ballou, Globe Staff
A police officer chased and arrested a man after he robbed a bank today on Broadway in Everett, police said.
Robert Saltman, 55, who is homeless, was arrested by Officer Brian Murray. Murray, 40, a 10-year veteran of the force, was off duty because of an injured shoulder. He reinjured his shoulder during the arrest at about 11:15 a.m. and was taken to a hospital for treatment, Everett Police said in a statement.
Saltman allegedly entered the back door of the Everett Cooperative Bank and handed a teller a note demanding money. The teller gave the man about $200 and he fled out the back door, said Elizabeth Jones, the chief executive and president of the bank.
Police said Murray was on nearby Victoria Street when he saw Saltman running from the bank's back door and gave chase.
Police said Saltman is also suspected of robbing the same bank on Jan. 7.
