Freezing drizzle coated roads and sidewalks this morning with a slick layer of ice, slowing traffic across Massachusetts and delaying the start of some schools.

No major accidents have been reported, but spinouts and minor accidents have occurred across the Commonwealth, according to the State Police. Slippery road conditions forced the MBTA to divert the Route 64 bus, which runs between Oak Square in Brighton to Franklin and Sidney streets in Cambridge.

"It was pretty widespread," said Bill Simpson, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Taunton.

More winter weather is expected to hit Massachusetts overnight on Tuesday and into Wednesday morning. The central part of the state could receive 6 or more inches of snow in addition to sleet and freezing rain. Along the coast and in Boston, snow totals are expected to range from zero to 2 inches.
