An 18-year-old was stabbed this afternoon near a bus stop across from the Jeremiah Burke High School in Dorchester.

The teen was stabbed in the abdomen at about 3 p.m. on Columbia Road. He was rushed to a local hospital, where his condition was not immediately available.

It was not clear whether the teen was a student at the school. Police have not reported making any arrests.

  1. Why does stuff like this happen?
Was the kid bothering anyone maybe?

  1. It doesn't say he was black and i dont think prayer would do anything for school or how the youth of today is treating each other

  1. In answer to comment # 3:The article doesn't say the victim was black. It does not describe the assailant. Are you disappointed?
Comment # 2 is an appropriate statement of facts.
Comment # 4 We need prayer back in the homes and families with strong parental supervision. The students in BPS need more than prayers in school.
    Happy New Year.

  1. I know many white people who live in Dorchester.

  1. Prayer back in school? you must be joking...what would that accomplish? please tell me...for prayer to even have a chance at working to stop violence, the people "praying" would have to believe in it, and most of these people committing violent acts don't believe in anything except for themselves. Faith is hard to come by now a days...

  1. In Dorchester, I'm guessing he's not a prominent white kid, so more than likely... he's black, or the perp is black.

  1. Pamela it is so sad that you immediately assume that the youths are black and even sadder that you are so ignorant as to use the term "the black youths" as if they are a seperate entity from youths in general. Pamela I am truly sad, sad that ignorant people like you still exist in a society that has come such a long way...

  1. What in the world do you expect when we make laws that allow a 16 year old to drop out of school and we as parents are forced to take care of them while their having sex in our bed, doing drugs and watching pornography in our living room and eating up all the food in the kitchen and than cussing us out and dareing us to say something about it. It hurts so much, that you wish you had aborted the little #$%^&%$#. And than on top of all that they think they have a right to take a precious life for something as stupid as a couple of dollars. I agree, put prayer back in school. It's time for us all to pray. It's so sad. Law makers...professing themselves wise, have become fools

  1. I am I missing something "its so sad that black youths are still trying to kill each other" I read the article and it doesnt mention what race the 18 year old is... Just because it is dorchester and the the school is called Jeremiah Burke doesnt mean it has to be a black youth. Also for your info pamela other races go to school in dorchester and crime and shootings with young youths is everywhere.

  1. "its so sad that the black youths are still trying to kill each other"

its even more sad that someone sees the words stabbing and dorchester and its automatically ASSumed that its a black youth involved.

  1. i am sick of reading about violence in the world. but is anyone else sick of the ignorance in this world. the people who are ignorant and think they are on a high white horse sickens me almost as much as these punks committing the violence. people ASSume way too much and speak on people and things they know nothing about. these people are on the same level as some of these "losers" committing these crimes. class and compassion does not cost money to have and it seems like alot of people with money lack one if not both.

  1. In response to #13 joeylace
No, they are not assuming the victim was black because of the City of Dorchester, which by the way is a wonderful City that houses many communities. Some areas are predominantly black, some areas are predominantly white, and some are a wonderful mixture of different cultures and races. Pamela's comment reflects her being familiar with the Jeremiah Burke High School and that portion of Columbia Street.
Don't make assumptions, you in the end are the one with the inflammatory statement.

  1. I cannot believe how stupid some of these people sound! "Black youth are still killing each other" and "the Perp must have been black" and "was the kid bothering someone". Let me tell you something. I drive past that school every day and I see more of those "white youth" and "asian youth" and "latino youth" out there acting as ignorant as you please. And you don't need to be "bothering someone" to get stabbed or shot. Yeah, Dorchester is always on the news, but some of your "suburban" towns are just as bad, but aren't highlighted as much. Believe me, I know! Don't assume what you don't know. Prayer in school? I have kids, we need to be involved in their lives instead of making some teacher responsible for taking care of our kids. Enough said.

  1. Prayer? We need solutions..not fairy tales!

  1. I agree who ever said that this young man was black. For someone to just assume that is sad. How come this person could not have been white? Is it because of where they live or do you know something the rest of us don't? maybe you were there or you know the person. Either way there is no right for you to assume the race of this person. The main concern is if this boy is ok and will he survive the attack. My heart and prayer go out to his family.
As for the prayer in school, I do not think that would work, now a days not as many people go to church and believe in god and all of that. I wish they did because maybe just maybe then we coud stop this god awful violence against each other.

  1. This is very unfortunate regardless of the teens color. Prayer aside, what we need is for parents to stand up to their children and stop trying to be their best friend. Be a parent and a person of authority to your kids. Most parents know what their child is capable of, so search their rooms for weapons and drugs. Forget privacy, this is really YOUR room, they are just using it. In closing, with today's media, if the victim had been white it would definitely had said so in the article. Please believe that.

  1. WELL, QUESTION IS ARE THEY OF THE BLACK RACE?. WE ARE ALL GOD'S CHILD REN, BLACK OR WHITE

Posted by MEMEME January 6, 09 07:09 AM
  1. oh, yes, prayer is so the answer- just look how it has brought peace to the Middle East. There is no god, and if there is, he/she/it is not one that deserves being prayed to.

  1. I agree with having prayers in the schools, it is something that the children can learn to believe in, and not try to take their feelings of anger, rage, fear and jealousy out on each other. Many children of many races now attend the burke high school and not only that since a billion dollars was just spent on restructing the property I don't have a doubt in my mind that other races will be some where close by to enjoy what we have suffered through. Pamela I will pray for you today. Learn to have understanding and acceptance.

  1. If your kid drops out at 16 and expects to live off you throw them out or make them work and earn there keep and if they don't then they can find there own way. Ok so you may not want to make them homeless but you can buy only food that you would cook for dinner and what not no snacks , no cable TV etc....make being at home doing nothing quite boring for them!!!

  1. Has anyone looked at comment #12? This is why our youth are doing what they are doing. We have too many ignorant people who make ignorant comments and think that it's okay. Yes we do need prayer. Prayer will change things and you're right, it will change only if we believe, but we need to start in our own homes and get our own children right then and only then can we branch out. It's doesn't matter whether these young people were black, white or whatever. What matters is that this is our next generation and we are losing them.

  1. If this had happened in Newton or Lexington, it would be front-page news, and everyone would call it a tragedy. It happened in Dorchester, so no one cares.
