Got an opinion on the idea of raising tolls on the Massachusetts Turnpike? Then a hearing in Worcester tonight is the place for you.

It’s the fourth of four hearings in which the Turnpike is collecting views on the proposal that would boost fees at the Weston and Allston-Brighton tolls from $1.25 to $2, and double the fees at the Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels.

The proposal has already received preliminary approval from the Turnpike.

Incoming transportation secretary James A. Aloisi Jr., who will lead the turnpike board when he takes office, has said he will give the toll proposal a fresh look, leaving the Patrick administration an opening to shift its position. But It now seems likely that drivers will face an increase in tolls, gas taxes, or MBTA fares, or some combination of the three, in the year ahead, the Globe reports today.

The hearing is tonight at 6:30 at Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St.

  1. What ever happened to a toll free road as promised many years ago. This fiscal mess is a direct result of ALL previous state Reps and Senators. Now we ALL get to pay. How many western MA reidents worked and probably retired off the jobs created by the "Big Dig "? I know a few. Well pay back is a mutha. I commute, daily from Westwood to Chelsea. I never have and never will set foot inside the shrine of the new I 93 (I do use the TWTunnel) under Ms Kennedy's Rose Garden and am realy peeved I have to pay for it. I will not use the Pike if the tolls increase. I will do my best to gridlock Newton

  1. Sorry, I forgot Part II. Join Stop the Pike Hike and voice your disgust in the lack of vision in some of our current leaders to adopt any serious reform of the State's transportation system , yes. the ENTIRE Commonwealth not just inside 128. No more taxation without representation. The Turnpike Board is not elected and answers to no one.

  1. Get RID of the PIKE, PAY OFF the BIG DIG, and then END whatever is added to the gas tax.

MONTHLY reporting of this progress should be made: MASS owes XX$ and paid of X$ this month....so people can SEE teh progress we make in eliminating debt and waste.
