A 30-year-old man was shot to death early this morning in Roxbury, police said.
Police said the man was found about 12:57 a.m. lying face down in a grassy area next to 57 Warwick St., suffering from several gunshot wounds. The victim, who was not immediately identified, was treated at the scene and rushed to Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
No suspects have been arrested. The slaying is the seventh homicide in Boston this year, compared with 13 murders at this time last year.
On Thursday night, a 28-year-old man was shot in the head at 28 Beechland St. in Roslindale near a basketball court. He was taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He is listed in critical condition.

Only 7 murders compared to 13 last year at this time? Well gee! I guess that makes it a whole lot better!
"Police said the man was found about 12:57 a.m."
Shouldn't this person be asleep?
When are the police going to learn... Anyone out that late at night in those areas can not be up to any good... they need to put a strick curfew in place and if they don't abide by the rules then lock them up... Thats one way to lower the crime in the city...

Is it a crime to be up at 12:57? Next time you are awake at 12:57am you may want to keeps your eyes open. He could be working 2nd shift and walking home.
One murder is one too many. All life is valuable.

You are inferring a judgment where there isn't one. To write that there have been seven homicides this year, compared to 13 at this time last year, is a simple and common comparison. Nobody's saying it's cause for celebration complain about a real problem with the media. You're the one who used the word "only."
I live in Roxbury and regularly would get home between 12:30 and 1:00 a.m. -- such are the perils of working the 5 p.m. to midnight shift. It's disgusting and hateful to assume that just because a person was not at home in bed at one in the morning that he was automatically up to no good. Do you seriously think the city only operates on a 9-5 schedule? Some people's work days start at 5 p.m. or later. It's how we have hospitals, police stations, firehouses, and increasingly other jobs as our global economy expands. Maybe he was coming home from work at a restaurant, a bar, a hospital, the police station, the fire department ... there's a whole range of jobs that keep people out at odd hours.
"Just saying" : Perhaps learn to spell before you start offering your solutions for "those areas" of the city. What do you think this is, apartheid? Unless YOU want a curfew on your comings and goings, you should keep quiet. There are a lot of reasons why this man could have been out on the street at 1.00 am. Go back to your hovel. A man is dead. That is a shame.
to: just saying
way to tip-toe around what you REALLY want to say.
where exactly are "those areas"???
and this curfew..., I assume it will cover the entire city of Boston, or is it just set up for "them"?
No kidding, Robert Brown. Strict curfew? Which year and country is this? And I'll bet this same person is all about freedom, freedom, too-big government, don't-take-away-my-guns, blah blah whenever it suits him. Jeez, some of the smug, sanctimonious cranks who write in here...
If the mayor really cared and was willing to do ever thing in his power than he would set a simple enforceable curfew (with steep fines) offer a gun buyback program and use the stimulus money in the poorer parts of town instead of pumping it into the parts of Boston that have wealth.
