The older half-brother of Dane Cook has been indicted on charges that he stole millions of dollars from the Boston-born actor-comedian, the attorney general's office said today.
Darryl McCauley, 43, of Wilmington is charged with eight counts of larceny over $250, as well as forgery and larceny by continuous scheme. A grand jury handed up the indictments today.
Prosecutors allege that McCauley, who was Cook's business manager from the early 1990s until early December 2008, stole millions from Cook's business accounts by transferring money to his own personal accounts. In one instance, McCauley allegedly forged a $3 million check written from Cook's account to himself.
McCauley was arrested Dec. 30 and was ordered held on $3 million cash bail. The bail has subsequently been reduced to $500,000. The indictment will move the case into Superior Court, where an arraignment is expected at a later date, Attorney General Martha Coakley's office said in a statement.
The indictments refer to alleged thefts between January 2008 through December of 2008. The investigation is ongoing, prosecutors said.
"Mr. McCauley has at all times insisted upon his innocence and continues to do so," his attorney, Robert M. Goldstein, said.
