Fistfight with a neighbor led to the violent attack on sisters in Milton, according to police

At one point it says the police were able to save the 5 year olds life and then it says that the two sisters died. Was she saved?

It sounds like something happened to him in prison. I think he took some bad drugs or was given some questionable meds by the prison officials that he shouldn't have been given.

There were 3 girls - the 17 yr old and the 5 year old were killed, but the 9 yr old was the one that was saved...thank God. Though she will have a lot to go through as she processes the trauma of the whole ordeal.

Laurie -- the 5 year old died -- it was the 9-year-old sister who they were able to save (by shooting the brother while he was attacking her). So sad.

Maybe the liberals need to ban knives. Notice that there are no outcries of bans when people are beaten or stabbed to death.

This is a horrific crime. I will pray for the survivors and those who lost their lives.

Ten to one this guy was on prescription psych medication. Why don't they find out and report it? Antidepressants are known to sometimes cause bizarre violence and suicide. Hardly anyone who's gone to prison is not on them.

As this article proves, the US prison system makes people even more violent after they are released then when they entered the system. Or they were never violent to begin with until they got to prison! On 20/20 there was a story of private prison bribing judges to lock people who had no business in jail.

Where were the parents? I have heard a word about them so far.

I'm going to throw out 'paranoid schizophrenic' as a cause for this incident. He was quiet and moody initially, but then later was described as confused and rambling (auditory hallucinations?). It didn't state his age in the article, but often the disease develops or progresses in an individual when s/he reaches his/her 20's. Or, of course, he could have been an abuser of crack cocaine or meth.

So very sad for the beautiful little girls and their family. I hope that the 9 yo survives.

Laurie ~ No, it says the cops arrived just when he killed the 5 year old, then killed him when he began stabbing the 9 year old. Unfortunately, the 5 year old died. My thoughts are with the family. So tragic.

it was a 3rd sister that got saved. the 17 and 5 year old were the ones that got killed.

from what i understood is there were 3 sisters and the 5 yr old survived.

Thank goodness the heroic police didn't consider police critics, or their own safety, as they entered into the explosive situation to save a young girl's life.

And thank goodness their bullets thoroughly snuffed out that evil perp, otherwise he would have been nursed back to health at taxpayer expense and then declared unfit to be tried on account of "mental illness" by the Commonwealth's non-functional criminal justice system.

I'm going to make a donation to a fallen officers' charity in honor of their bold, swift, selfless action.

There are no words to to really express the tragedy. How sad; that poor family.

The two girls, the killer himself, and lets not forget the cop who had to see a five year old killed. Nor the girl who survived. All around, this is heart breaking. I hope that girl leads a normal life, and I hope that officer's heart doesn't harden (or isn't already too hardened to be sad).

What about the father of these children? Was the father present in the family? Where is the father? Is that sad event another symptom or consequence of where our fatherless nation is heading? About waiting to hear any news about the parents - specially the father of these kids. If anyone know, please tell. May God have pity and move in with justice for the children.

When these tragedies happened, the press never says enough about the absentee-fathers. After pushing and kept the fathers away, the children are left alone and vulnerable. This is another symptom of the bankrupcy of our fatherless nation. May Jesus-Christ deliver us from the evil of fathelessness.

God is protecting those girls right now, they are his newest angels!! At some point, the town of Milton should hold a candle light vigil to honor these brave girls, and offer support to the family. I'm sure the family is still in SHOCK at this time. There are no words that can adequately express the depth of sympathy I feel for them ...God Bless them and give them the emotional strength they need to cope through this extremely difficult time.

This is awful. This is the purpose of the death penalty. Those two sisters deserved no part of a fight between two men

How old was Kerby? Was he babysitting the two girls? Who is/are the girls' legal guardians, and where were they when this happened? Did Kerby have a history of drug use as well, and is that what the fistfight may have been about (someone owing someone else money)? We should not take as face value the idea that Friday's conflict with the neighbor precipitated this violent crime: a number of other possibilities - an antisocial or sociapathic personality; mental illness that was untreated or undertreated; erratic behavior due to drug use (e.g. marijuana laced with PCP), and drug induced mood disorder or drug induced psychosis. The officer should have declined to speculate on motive.

It isn't often thought of during tragedies like these, but please include the responding officers in your prayers along with the grieving family. They are a part of this awful incident and will never forget what they saw and subsequently had to do in order to save a life.

Interesting that he may have begun behaving erratically since prison. I wonder about the possibility of closed head trama resulting in brain injury while in prison.

No sign of a problem here? For real?!!!! Incarceration? Wandering around drinking in the morning outside? Previous violence? Umm, why was this crazy brother even allowed near these helpless girls? So sad and possibly could have been prevented! It doesn't take an expert to know that Kirby clearly needed help and didn't get it. Unbelievable.

What a tragic, tragic situation!! That man did not have the right to be released from prison: punching a woman --- either the grandmother or his mother --- bespeaks of an uncontrollable and vicious person. Also, incarcerated for a gun issue. These were definite signs of a guy who was a threat and danger to his family and society. Why weren't the police called when he had a fist fight with his neighbor? Perhaps the guy would have been in jail and these two young sisters would be alive today and the third sister would not be injured!! My heart goes out to the family and friends, and the police officers involved. Pray

There were plenty of mounting signs over a period of years that this lad was in trouble and not normal. (Just read the article again, if you didn't notice this already.) Where were the parents? Why wasn't anyone more concerned, or interested in helping him get right? The tragic death of these young girls did not have to happen! Others around him were apparently being mindless!

Err, where was Jesus during the attack? If Jesus "is there" then he should be more proactive in these situations. Teh stupid, it burns.

This event illustrates what can happen when mental health services are not provided for young adults. Mental illness shows up at the beginning of adult life and many families have no way of getting care for these young men. The parents obviously did not realize how sick their son was and did not have a way to keep him away from their girls . Most hospitals keep these patients for a week and then send them back home to their families. What a very sad event for the community and above all for the parents.

It appears something happened in prison to drastically change this man's state of mind. I wonder if he was put on psychiatric drugs that made him act violently. Most other people who commit these senseless murders (Andrea Yates who drowned her kids and the Columbine shootings) were on some type of psychiatric drug.

What drugs were he on? This sounds like a drug type situation.

What a tragic story! I have read several accounts but have yet to hear any mention of a mother or father. What a horrible thing for any family, neighborhood or community to have to deal with. My heart also goes out to the emergency respondents who had to witness such senseless brutality. My thoughts and condolences go out to all involved.

Substance abuse and mental illness......such killers of the spirit, and in this case, a tragic end to lives that held such promise. As horrible as this is, Kerby's actions must have mirrored the torment within.....how awful it must have been to carry his burden, whatever it was. it is mentioned numerous times that the parents (both) were away. Both had jobs. Stop taking the easy road out and blaming the parents. Mental illness is an often overlooked, easily excused away cause of many problems today. Hindsight shows he was obviously mentally ill, but day to day observation by those who have known him his whole life, may not have been so clear. this is a tragedy, focus on what you can do to help those who survived, and don't overlook the poor police officers who literally witnessed this horrific crime. may god be with them all.

They say the police got there in time to see the brother slice the 5 yr olds throat , at that time they should have killed him.. then they could have saved the 9 yr old. I feel bad for the police that had to witness the slaying of the girls.

The parents were at work when this tragedy happened, and arrived home together an hour later without realizing what they were walking into. The kids' grandmother was in the basement doing laundry. This is a loving family who had lived in the neighborhood for twenty years. Please don't jump to conclusions or bring up stereotypes.

Amazing that anyone has the gall to bring their own bitter politics into this senseless and tragic situation. This is not a "liberal" crime. This young man clearly had a severe but seemingly undiagnosed mental illness--this is not about fatherless families or irresponsible parents (no one would be making a peep in this direction if he were white) The parents were mentioned in the very first article I read on this story, coming home with the mother hysterical as she gathered wind of what had happened. They attend a church in Mattapan. Please--don't rush to judge these poor people whose lives have just been destroyed. Pray for them and for the police who did the brave and right thing is a horrible situation and saved that young girl's life. None of those people will ever be the same--please--kindness and compassion.

I cried when i heard about this, 2 inncent sisters died because theeir brother was upset earlier in the day, that's crazy. They should of put him away a long time ago, this never would of happened. for their brother to cut his sister's head off in front of the cops, that's a man who needed serious psychological help. I pray for the family in their time of grief, it is going to be hard for the family to get over this. I pray for the police who saw this horror, it will scar them like the family.

This is not "mental illness"; this is most likely drugs. Unless dealers are now making some kind of super-booted Prozac, the drugs this kid was taking were most likely the legal variety, the same drugs that virtually all the highly publicized mass shooters and school shooters were taking here and abroad. There are even brand new terms for this brand new type of violence: in Germany, it's called "amoklauf", in Japan, knife-rampagers. Not even meth coupled with LSD induces such levels of violence with this modern frequency. The hint that legel "meds" may have been behind this is Revelus's recent incarceration: prison "therapy" and "medical support" these days means drugs and more drugs. Young, black males are intensely targeted for this, though all kids in the system are vulnerable to this "treatment". This has absolutely nothing to do with politics. A knife is a household utensil. It's just common sense that some things cannot be banned.

I can't even read this anymore this is one of the saddest things i have read here in a longggg time!

the brother was clearly troubled . something happened during his stay in jail that was not being dealt with. thoughts and prayers are with the family and all concerned. do not drop the ball again, the surviving child will need a lifetime of serious help.

I think that this man had been dealing with severe clinical depression for years - supressed. He doesnt have symptoms of a paranoid schizofenic as those symptoms are very telling. He may have been clinically depressed, however he most likely had also been experiencing gang (brain-washing). The kind that say we are your only family. You don't need anyone else. Either way this is extemely tragic and my thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, friends, and family. God Bless

Thank God for all the good cops in the world who have the guts and the presence of mind to do the right thing in a moment of horror such as this. I believe that Bianca and Princess are together in heaven. Poor little Saraphina who has to live with the loss of her sisters and the memory of this day for the rest of her life. The man who did this to his own flesh and blood deserves instant execution and an eternity in hell. Praise the police officers who did what they had to do in a moment of extreme stress. No doubt they will have nightmares for years to come over this unspeakable tragedy.
