Two taken to hospital after Lincoln ice rescue
By John M. Guilfoil, Globe Correspondent
An 89-year-old man was being treated for hypothermia this afternoon after falling through thin ice at a pond in Lincoln.
Lincoln public safety officials received a call at about 3:30 p.m. and found the Weston resident up to his neck in the frigid water, 75 yards from the shoreline of the pond in south Lincoln, near the Weston line.
Firefighters pulled the man out using an ice sled and ice rescue gear. One firefighter jumped in the water during the rescue, Lincoln Police said in a statement.
Both the firefighter and the man were taken to Emerson Hospital for treatment. Their names and conditions were not released.
Police said it appeared the man had ventured onto the ice to check on a bird feeder.
