Suspect arrested in Framingham officer shooting

FRAMINGHAM -- Framingham police say they have arrested one suspect but are still pursuing another after a police officer was shot in the face Tuesday night.
Sahr W. Josiah, 22, of Framingham allegedly shot Officer Phillip Hurton three times, once in the face and once in each hand, said Lieutenant Paul Shastany, a police spokesman.
Hurton was taken by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Josiah was ordered held pending a dangerousness hearing Friday after being arraigned this morning in Framingham District Court. He is facing 19 charges, including armed assault with intent to murder and unlawful carrying of a firearm, second offense.
Shastany said police received a report from a taxicab driver at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday of a robbery by two men with guns near 15 Alexander St.
Officers chased the two suspects through a marsh, with the help of search dogs and a helicopter. Josiah emerged from woods on Beaver Street and allegedly shot Hurton, Shastany said.
Josiah allegedly then ran behind a convenience store and fired at two more officers, striking a police cruiser and shattering its window. He fled into the woods again but emerged later and was taken into custody, Shastany said.
Prosecutor Darina Belot told the court at the arraignment that Hurton may have a projectile lodged in his neck and he had also suffered major tendon damage in his right hand and a broken finger on his left.
Josiah's attorney, Charles Hughes of Framingham, had no comment on the case.
"It's obviously a tragedy," Jason Smith, chairman of the Board of Selectmen, said last night of Hurton's being shot. "My compassion goes out to him and his family."

They didn't identify the officer, so now everyone that knows a Framingham police officer is worrying, "is it so-and-so?"
Hopes go out to the officer for a speedy recovery.
Fight fire with fire. These thugs need to be brought to justice, in court or on the street. Either way.
And they want to lay off cops in Boston....great just GRrrreeat. They can't control Metrowest now, what happens when its warm out and all the gang members get outside.
I am really sorry to hear what happened........
Im a little sad that this type of action is taken when this man got shot, but when my friend got shot recently, no one took action. I feel bad for the cop, I really do, but I want people to start respecting all citizens, not just the ones with badges.......thanks.....peace to all, put down the guns, stop this childish nonsense, now
Framingham is turning into a mini battle zone, the cops are out gunned by scumbags, maggots, losers. To many rules handcuffing the cops in this state due to the liberal a$$wipe$ who make the rules. A cop has to get shot before they can return fire, have to respect peoples rights, well not in all cases some people lose their rights when they commit crimes but not in this lousy state.
its going to be a bad, long summer..Officers have there work cut-out for them pray
fighting fire with fire just leaves everyone burned
this country is in need of serious gun control laws. how can people not see that? For every person that has a weapon for "self defense" or hunting, there are 100 more who have guns for criminal purposes. We need to get guns off the street. It's the only real way to curb the senseless violence going on in this country.
