Suspicious substance found at Boston office building
Michele Richinick, Globe Correspondent
The Boston Fire Department has responded to a high-rise office building in the city's Financial District after four employees found a suspicious material in a package.
The material inside the package has not been identified, but firefighters are treating it as a hazardous material, said Stephen MacDonald, a spokesman for the Fire Department.
After the workers found the material just after noon today at One Financial Center, none of them reported feeling ill, MacDonald said.
The material is in an isolated room, and firefighters are in the process of examining the substance, he said.
MacDonald said he did not believe the building was evacuated.
Some pedestrians have stopped outside the building, where there is police and fire commotion, but the crowd is nothing unusual in the South Station area, he said.
