One of New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick's sons was arrested Monday after he was found in possession of an alcoholic beverage in the parking lot at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, police said.

Brian Belichick, 17, was arrested with one other individual at around 3:45 p.m. and charged with underage possession of alcohol after police found him with a can of beer in his hand, Foxborough Police said.

"We made a concerted effort to eliminate any underage drinking during the event," said Foxborough Police Sergeant Allan Haskell of the Foxborough police. "It was zero tolerance."

Haskell said police were on a patrol through the parking lot, where many adults were holding tailgate parties, looking for underage drinkers.

Belichick "was a perfect gentleman," and didn't resist officers, said Haskell.

Belichick's arrest came on the final day of the NCAA Lacrosse Championships. During the three-day event, Foxborough Police arrested 52 people for various alcohol violations. Belichick was arrested during the Division I championship game between Syracuse and Cornell.

Gillette Stadium is the home of the Patriots, who have been led by Bill Belichick to three Super Bowl championships.

Haskell said Brian Belichick was released on his own recognizance the same day, but had to pay a $40 fee. He appeared in Wrentham District Court Tuesday and his case was continued without a finding for six months, meaning if he stays out of trouble, the case will dropped.

Belichick will have to pay $200, consisting of $100 in court costs and $100 in prosecution costs, and attend a program on the possible consequences of drinking and other risky behaviors, said Norfolk district attorney's spokesman David Traub. Traub said the case was "typical."

"He got the same disposition of justice as anyone else," Haskell said. "He received no special treatment."

In October 2006, Bill Belichick's other son, Stephen Belichick, was arrested in Weston on charges of marijuana possession after police on routine patrol found him and another individual in a car in a church parking lot. He was placed on six months probation. He was 19 at the time.
