Man convicted of first-degree murder in 2007 slaying
By Shelley Murphy, Globe Staff
After a day and a half of deliberations, a Suffolk County jury convicted Jose Delacruz of first-degree murder today in the slaying of 19-year-old Tyrice Brown, who was shot to death in 2007 at a Roxbury convenience store.
After the verdict, one of the victim's relatives said: "I just thank God for the justice system. Justice was served."
Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday.
Delacruz was convicted just days after prosecutors presented chilling video of Brown's killing.
A camera outside the store recorded the image of a man prosecutors say is Delacruz approaching the front door just before the killing and horrific pictures of Brown being shot.
According to police, Delacruz admitted targeting Brown after he was apprehended because he believed that Brown had shot him about a month before.
