May 26, 2009 09:04 AM

By Michele Richinick, Globe Correspondent

Emergency workers briefly closed southbound Interstate 95 in Sharon this morning to allow a medical helicopter to land for a person injured in a car crash, State Police said.

The driver hit a tree on the right side of the highway at 7:30 a.m. and was flown to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, said Sergeant David Mahan of the State Police. No additional information was released, including the name and gender of the driver.

The roadway reopened after the helicopter took off at 8:15 a.m. The crash backed up traffic for miles.
