Firefighters battle 3-alarm blaze in Charlestown

A fast-moving fire in a Charlestown neighborhood sent 10 to 15 people out of their homes late Saturday.
Fire officials spent 45 minutes working to control the three-alarm fire, which started in a four-story wood-frame building at 106 High St. and then spread to the adjacent 104 High St. in this densely populated area.
Betsy Reed, 55, a resident at 104 High St. said she had “no idea how it happened.”
“I’m staying with a friend down the street,” Reed said. “Thank God, Charlestown is a village.”
There was extensive damage to parts of both buildings, fire officials said.
“I looked out the window and I saw huge flames. I had to go outside and see what was going on,” said John Velho, 34, who lives on nearby Main Street.
No one was injured, said Boston Deputy Fire Chief Joseph Finn.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
