Green Line up and running at Government Center
By John Forrester, Globe Correspondent
MBTA Green Line subway service is running as usual today at Government Center following a Friday night collision in a tunnel near that stop between two cars that left two trains derailed and nearly 50 injured.
The derailed trains were removed overnight and then Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority officials “inspected the tracks, signals, and switches,” said Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the MBTA.
National Transportation Safety Board investigators, working with the MBTA, also conducted investigations into the night.
“They [NTSB investigators] worked late into the evening last night. I don’t think they wrapped up until about 10:30 p.m.,” said Peter Knudson, spokesman for the NTSB.
Service was suspended at Government Center after the crash. It resumed today around 5:30 a.m., the subway’s normal opening time, Pesaturo said.
