Hundreds gather for funeral of slain Roxbury teen
By Eric Moskowitz, Globe Staff
A crowd approaching 500 people gathered today in Mt. Olive Kingdom Builders' Worship Center in Boston's Dorchester section to mourn Soheil Turner, the 15-year-old who was gunned down May 7 as he waited to take a bus to school.
The chuch was overflowing; the crowd was spilling out the open doors of the granite-block building, onto the church lawn, and into the streets. Gospel music wafted through the doors and from loudspeakers set up on the lawn.
Many mourners wore sky-blue ribbons and buttons with pictures of Turner, an eighth-grader from Roxbury who went to a Charlestown school. A few of his friends wore baseball hats with "RIP" embroidered on the front and his nickname, "Soey," on the back.
Since the killing, Turner's family, neighborhood, and school community have struggled to come to terms with their sudden loss. Some are angry, while others are calling for forgiveness and peace, the Globe reported this morning.
