The constant stream of updates came on the Internet via Twitter, which allows blasts of information in postings of 140 characters or less.

For nearly 69 hours, from Wednesday through Saturday, the staff posted 137 updates on Twitter. In total, they used 17,801 characters in those clipped dispatches.

The information varied from the practical (the route of Thursday's motorcade through Boston), to the poignant (the funeral procession moved slowly down Constitution Avenue in Washington, "as if reluctant to complete the journey").
