Man shot and killed at YMCA teen dance
A 19-year-old man was shot and killed at the Dorchester YMCA late Saturday night, according to Boston police.
The YMCA on Washington Street was wrapping up a weekly summer dance, which is held in part to help keep teens off the street and away from violence, when the man was shot at about 11:30 p.m.
Kelley Rice, a spokeswoman for the Greater Boston YMCA, said the teen, whose name was not yet released, was not a member of the youth organization.
Rice and police say they do not know of any other shootings that have taken place at any YMCA in Boston.
Men and women toting gym bags continued to filter into the red brick building late Sunday morning. Typed flyers announcing canceled events covered a colorful hand-written poster announcing a championship cookout and barbecue.
Police did not release any further details.
