Pedestrian killed on I-93 in Wilmington
A tractor trailer struck and killed a man standing near the middle of Interstate 93 in Wilmington this morning, State Police said.
The accident occurred about 10 a.m., when the victim exited his 2003 Mazda Minivan parked in the breakdown lane and walked onto the roadway. He was hit in the second travel lane – two lanes to the left of the breakdown lane – on I-93 northbound south of Exit 39 in Wilmington.
Police said they did not know why the man was walking on the highway.
The victim was pronounced dead at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. Police are witholding his identity until his family is notified.
The truck driver, Leonardo Fajardo, 35, of Everett, was taken to Winchester Hospital with minor injuries. All lanes are back open, after two lanes were closed for about two hours.
