Pedestrian killed in Marblehead accident
A pedestrian was struck and killed by a motor vehicle Monday night in the seaside community of Marblehead, police said.
Authorities did not release the victim's name, but the grandmother of Allessandra Castner, a 15-year-old sophomore at Marblehead High School, said Castner was the victim.
"She was just a beautiful girl, inside and out," said Martha Castner, describing her granddaughter, who was known to friends and family as "Allie," as an athletic girl who loved arts and crafts and skiing.
The accident happened at about 6:55 p.m. at the intersection of Pleasant Street and Mohawk Road, Marblehead Police said in a statement issued today.
The victim was taken to North Shore Medical Center in Salem, then airlifted to Boston Medical Center. Authorities did not release the name of the driver.
The accident is under investigation by local and state police, along with the Essex County district attorney's office.
