Three people were killed Saturday morning in two accidents, State Police said. One accident killed two elderly people as they were changing a tire in Webster, while another person was killed in a Charlton crash.
The first two victims, 81-year-old Robert G. Farner and 77-year-old Chloe K. Farner, both of Cottonwood Shores, Texas, were in the breakdown lane on Interstate 395 North changing a tire on the camper they were towing with their 2005 Dodge truck. At about 6:40 a.m., they were hit by a 2006 Nissan Altima. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
After hitting the Dodge, the Nissan, driven by 21-year-old Geoffrey K. Wahome of Lowell, rolled over and came to rest in the breakdown lane. Wahome was treated at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester and released this morning.
A third person died in a separate accident in Charlton at approximately 10:25 a.m. when a 2009 Volkswagen sport-utility vehicle driven by Alena Y. Komissarova, 44, of Charlton was involved in a crash with a 2005 Ford Escape driven by Karl Mitchell, 75, of Spencer. The accident at the intersection of Route 20 and Richardson Corner Road fatally injured a woman who was in the Ford with Mitchell. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.
Komissarova was transported to UMass Medical Center with minor injuries, while Mitchell was taken to the same hospital with serious injuries.
Both accidents are under investigation.
