Showers and isolated thunderstorms dousing eastern Massachusetts this afternoon could dump as much as two inches of rainfall per hour, the National Weather Service said.
The service issued a flood advisory until 4 p.m., saying that ponding could occur on roads and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas. Creeks and small streams could also rise with minor flooding of low-lying areas.
Weather service radar at 3 p.m. showed heavy rain in the Boston area and rain south of the city.
