15 cars flatten tires on pothole in Lincoln

A pothole at a construction site on Route 2 eastbound in Lincoln became a menace for more than a dozen cars that hit it this morning, State Police officials said.

State Police Sergeant Michael Popovics said a total of 15 cars sustained flat tires at about 6 a.m.

The initial report was that a manhole cover had caused the problem. The state Executive Office of Transportation reported this afternoon, however, that a pothole was the real culprit.

The pothole had been inadvertently created by a construction crew as it made preparations for the repaving job. The problem was fixed quickly by the contractor with some patching, according to the office of transportation.
