4 minor injuries in crash involving fire department SUV

September 7, 2009 05:06 PM

A Boston Fire Department sport utility vehicle collided with a car in Jamaica Plain while responding to a call this afternoon in a crash that sent four people to hospitals with what were described as minor injuries.

The fire department Chevrolet Tahoe had its lights flashing and siren wailing when it collided with a car at the intersection of Amory and Atherton streets at about 4 p.m., according to Steve MacDonald, a fire department spokesman. It was not immediately clear which vehicle was at fault.

After the crash, the fire chief for District 9 chief and his aide were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The driver of the other vehicle and a child in the car were taken to Boston Medical Center. None of the names have been released, but MacDonald said all injuries appeared to be minor.

The Chevrolet Tahoe is based at a fire station at 1870 Columbus Ave. It was responding to a report of a building fire at 309 Chestnut Ave., which was later determined to be triggered by overcooked food.

Boston Police and the Boston Fire public safety chief are investigating the crash.
