Boston-bound plane turns around after security concern
An American Airlines flight from Miami to Boston was diverted back to Miami International Airport last night because of a security concern, an airline spokesman said.
The 168 passengers and six crew members aboard flight 1640 left the Miami airport at 9:31 p.m. and returned about 45 minutes later, spokesman Billy Sanez said. He did not elaborate on the nature of the security concern and said authorities were investigating.
“It was important enough to turn the plane back around,” Sanez said.
Passengers got off the aircraft and were bused to the terminals, where they were waiting another plane. There were no reports of injuries.
US Transportation Security Administration workers, police, and canines were sweeping the aircraft, and its baggage and cargo, late last night, a TSA spokeswoman said.
