Five injured in Morrissey Boulevard crash

One car landed on top of the other.
Five people were injured in an accident tonight on Morrissey Boulevard near the entrance to UMass-Boston, State Police said.
State Police Sergeant William Nasuti said a car traveling southbound on Morrissey Boulevard made an illegal U-turn, crashing into another vehicle and a street sign, and propelling the car on top of the northbound vehicle.
University of Massachusetts-Boston student Tanya Larkin of Quincy was leaving class when she saw the accident happen while she was waiting at a red light in her car. She and another student, Chester Awuni of Randolph, went to assist.
Larkin pulled the driver out of the vehicle that had been headed southbound while Awuni pulled another person out of the passenger seat. After they pulled out the pair, three people in back seat remained trapped until firefighters were able to cut the roof of the car open and extricate them.
“As I pulled the driver out, they were all screaming. They looked scared,” Larkin said. “It was so surreal what happened.”
State Police spokesman Trooper Eric Benson said tonight that two of the injured were taken to Tufts Medical Center and three to Boston Medical Center. All had non-life-threatening injuries, he said.
“No one was seriously injured, but we’ve had a bunch of accidents at this intersection," Nasuti said. "A half-dozen in the past month or so, one involving a state trooper. Bottom line, people aren’t paying attention to traffic control devices.”
