Police: Accused shoplifter made a list, checked it twice

September 25, 2009 03:54 PM

At least no one will accuse him of being disorganized.

Douglas M. Taylor had no time for browsing when he entered a Marshalls in Framingham Wednesday afternoon, police say. In short order, the 35-year-old allegedly - and efficiently - shoplifted $300 worth of clothing from the Shoppers World store, filching the exact items he had jotted down on a piece of paper in his pocket.

"He made a list and checked it twice," quipped Lieutenant Paul Shastany of the Framingham Police Department. "He got every item."

Store security notified police after spotting Taylor stuffing a leather jacket, sweatshirt, and two pairs of shoes into a small duffel bag. When police confronted Taylor outside the store, he handed over the items and attempted to walk away, but was detained. Police discovered he was carrying two sets of wire cutters, presumably used to remove the security tags from the merchandise, and a handwritten reminder of the specific attire he needed to obtain.

"Exactly what he had," Shastany said, sounding somewhat impressed.

Taylor, who has two previous shoplifting convictions, was arrested and charged with shoplifting of property worth more than $100 and possession of tools used in burglaries. He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Thursday and was ordered held on $2,000 bail
