Rabbi charged with sexually assaulting two boys in the 1970s
A rabbi who allegedly sexually assaulted two pre-teen boys in the mid-1970s has been indicted by a Suffolk County grand jury on four counts of indecent assault and battery.
Stanley Zusia Levitt, 63, allegedly assaulted two students of the Maimonides School in Brookline, where he taught, according to the indictment handed up Wednesday.
One of the alleged victims contacted Boston police about a year ago, saying Levitt visited him at Children's Hospital in Boston on May 1975, while he was recovered from an accident, and that Levitt sexually assaulted him at the hospital. The other alleged victim told authorities he was assaulted on three occasions by Levitt, during a three-night visit at the teacher's former home on Chiswick Road.
Levitt moved to Pennsylvania in 1980. The statute of limitations, increased from 15 to 27 years, allows for the stoppage of time when a suspect moves out of state. If Levitt had remained in Massachusetts, the statue would have expired by now.
Levitt is scheduled to face arraignment Oct. 17 in Suffolk Superior Court.
