Lynn student, 16, charged in stabbing at high school

October 30, 2009 12:47 PM
A 16-year-old student in Lynn has been accused of attempted murder and other charges for allegedly stabbing several fellow students on Thursday down the street from Classical High School, according to police.

The name of the student has not been released because he is a juvenile, according to a press release issued this morning by Lynn police. The student is scheduled to be arraigned today on two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, which was a knife.

Authorities originally believed that the accused was one of five victims, but later determined he was the perpetrator, according to the press release. Police did not provide additional details and could not be reached by phone for comment.

The principal of the Classical High School, Gene Constantino, said today that teachers were not aware of anything that occurred during the school day that would have foreshadowed violence after dismissal.

"I think it needs to be clear to parents that the incident did not occur in the school, but nonetheless we have added security," Constantino said.

According to an article on the website of the Lynn Item, five students from Classical High were injured in a stabbing spree outside the school around dismissal time on Thursday.
