SWAT team responds after robbery report at Northeastern
A Northeastern University student was allegedly robbed early today by a suspect the student had signed in as a visitor as a university residence hall, the college said.
The robbery elicited a response from a Boston police SWAT team, police said. The suspect was said to be armed and the crime apparently was part of drug deal gone awry, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the case.
After the robbery, the suspect reportedly ran into a building at 550 Parker St., which is the address of an administration building at the Wentworth Institute of Technology.
Boston police responded at 2:58 a.m. to the Parker Street building but did not locate the suspect. The SWAT team responded because it was believed the suspect was armed, police said.
Investigators have leads that may help them identify the suspect, for whom they continue to search, police said.
In a statement, Northeastern said: "We encourage students to do their part by exercising caution and common sense. Students are responsible for their guests, and should not sign people they do not know into our community.''
