Jogger attacked on Tufts campus
Police are searching today for a man who punched a female jogger in the face on the Tufts University campus earlier this week.
A 27-year-old Medford woman was jogging on a walkway near the edge of campus and Colby Street when a man allegedly grabbed her arm and punched her in the face, said Medford Police Lieutenant Paul Covino.
The victim, who is not affiliated with Tufts, received scratches and a minor injury to her right eye, but refused medical attention at the scene, officials said.
The suspect is described as a 5-foot-11-inch white male in his mid-20s with a dark jacket and light blue baseball cap.
Police said they had no explanation for the man's actions.
“She said she doesn’t know the guy, never saw him before,” Covino said. “We don’t know what his motive was or what prompted him to do this.”
There is also no suggestion that the suspect is Tufts-affiliated or has a history in the area, said Tufts spokeswoman Kim Thurler.
“This is the first incident that we’ve heard of,” she said.
