New website offers a guide to the outdoors
The last thing people who love the outdoors want to do is sit in front of a computer. But they might be able to maximize their fun in the sun if they spend a few minutes with a new website, state officials say.
The state has launched a new environmental blog titled "The Great Outdoors," which is billed as a site that will reveal great places to fish, hike, bike, picnic, or even dog-sled in Massachusetts.
Staff members representing the Departments of Agricultural Resources, Conservation and Recreation, and Fish and Game contribute posts.
The bloggers are experts in everything from locally-grown foods to wildlife biology, wetlands restoration, and outdoor sports and activities, state officials said. Fellow outdoorspeople can contribute by sharing stories and secrets of their own.
“Once folks start to see up close all that our state has to offer – including pick-your-own farms, locally-grown oysters, farmers’ markets and farm stands, wine, agricultural fairs, B & Bs, and more – they are going to be amazed," said DAR commissioner Scott Soares.
