Power outage darkens Brookline businesses, homes

Several hundred homes and businesses were left in the dark today due to a power outage in the Chestnut Hill section of Brookline.
NStar spokeswoman JoAnne O’Leary said the outage was due to trouble in a manhole at the corner of Washington and Boylston streets. Over 450 customers lost power around 11:30 a.m., and Brookline police were called in to direct traffic after traffic signals in the area went out.
The outage was isolated after about an hour and a half, and power was restored to about 90 percent of those affected. O’Leary said NStar expects the other 10 percent to get power back by around 4:30 p.m.
