Statement of William Mitchell, acting MBTA general manager

The governor instructed me in August to make all of the MBTA's information available to David D'Alessandro and I was happy to do so.

Today's report was sobering. My top concern is always the safety of the people who rely on the T. At the Governor's direction, I have sent crews out this morning inspecting areas identified in the report. We will continue to monitor the safety of the system 24 hours a day.
I agree with the conclusion, as the report states, "the MBTA has accomplished many impressive achievements in enhancing safety and service," but I also know that we must remain focused on these issues every day because that is what T riders expect.
I embrace the Governor's call for a new era of transparency at the MBTA and will remain in constant communication with the people who ride the T and pledge that our team will do all we can to make sure riders see positive improvements in the days and weeks ahead.
