Police arrested twin brothers today in the Cape Cod town of Bourne after the brothers allegedly robbed a bank at gunpoint.

One of the twins is accused of using a handgun to rob a Rockland Trust Bank on Clay Pond Road shortly before 3 p.m., police said. The other brother allegedly waited outside in a getaway car.

Police identified the 37-year-old twins as Sprague and Travis Buchanan of Mashpee. They did not say which brother was the alleged gunman and which was the getaway driver.

A passerby saw one of the twins run out of the bank and jump into the getaway car. The witness jotted down the car's license plate and gave the number to police, who traced it to an address in Mashpee.

The Buchanans were arrested at the home three hours after the robbery and charged with armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. They were arraigned this morning in Falmouth District Court and ordered held on $25,000 cash bail.

"In today's economy, this is happening all the time, and arrests are being made possible because of people who are observant," said Bourne Police Lieutenant Richard Tavares. "We don't recommend them putting themselves in any danger, but to take the plate number and gather information from where they were helped police."
