Lowell Police and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the death of a man whose body was found about 2:30 a.m. Sunday in Lowell.
Carlos Rivera, 25, of Lowell was found at the intersection of Union and Linden streets suffering from gunshot wounds after Lowell Police responded to reports of a shooting. He was transported to Saints Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The circumstances of the death are under investigation, and no arrests have been made, according to State Police spokeswoman Jessica Venezia said. She would not comment on whether police had any leads on the shooter, but she said the two apparently knew one another.
"It doesn't look like it was a random act," she said. "It looks the parties involved were known to each other."
The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be conducting an autopsy. State Police and Lowell Police are asking any member of the public who has information on the death, to call either investigative squad.
