Braintree begins year with shootings, stabbing
The new year began with three shootings and a stabbing in Braintree early this morning, Braintree police said.
People scattered when police arrived at the Sheraton Hotel parking lot at 37 Forbes Road, where a fight was reported at 1:27 a.m., according to a police news release. Hotel staff told police of a disturbance that occurred earlier in two rooms, which were found empty but with some blood stains on the walls, said Deputy Chief Russell Jenkins.
Police returned to the hotel later in the morning to find a 24-year-old Brockton man in one of the rooms, suffering from stab wounds.
The man was taken to South Shore Hospital in South Weymouth, where he was treated for four stab wounds to the back.
A Davis Road resident called police at 1:53 a.m. after hearing gunshots in the area, and police later recovered two .40-caliber casings on Granite Street near Davis Road, Jenkins said.
Police learned that five men, ages 17 to 20, drove to Quincy Medical Center, where a 17-year-old from Braintree was treated for a grazing gunshot wound to the head, a 20-year-old Mattapan man was treated for a gunshot wound to the thumb, and a 19-year-old Dorchester man refused treatment for a gunshot wound to his hand. None of the injuries was life-threatening.
Several bullet holes were found in the exterior of a motor vehicle the men drove to the hospital, and it was towed to Braintree Police Station for further investigation.
Braintree officers and detectives and Quincy Police and State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office interviewed the men at the hospital.
The men were not cooperative during interviews, police said, though two of the men told police they had earlier gone to the Sheraton Hotel for a party. Police are investigating whether the shootings are connected to the stabbing.
No arrests have been made. Police continue to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with information to contact the Braintree Police Department at 781-843-1212.
