Carbon monoxide sickens 10 residents in Chelsea

January 2, 2010 02:23 PM

Ten Chelsea residents were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning this afternoon.

High levels of the gas were detected in the second and third floors of a three-floor apartment building at 125 Arlington St., said Chelsea Fire Department Lieutenant Paul Doherty.

Ten occupants reported symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, including dizziness. The others were also evacuated.

Doherty said it is unclear when the building will be safe to occupy again. The building's boilers have been shut down and gas company National Grid is investigating what generated the potentially deadly gas.
