Three-alarm fire damages 19th-century mansion in Stoughton

A three-alarm fire ripped through a 19th-century mansion in Stoughton this afternoon.

Stoughton firefighters were assisted by firefighters from a number of other nearby departments, including crews from Canton, Sharon, Easton, Brockton, and Avon, in battling the blaze, which was reported at about 3:40 p.m., a Stoughton fire official said.

There was extensive damage to the third floor of the Victorian-style house at 45-49 Capen St. All the occupants were able to evacuate the building safely, he said.
