Three indicted in Cambridge jail disturbance
Three Cambridge jail detainees are facing charges in connection with a disturbance at the jail in July that caused more than $250,000 worth of damage, the Middlesex district attorney's office said today
The Cambridge jail went into a lockdown at 12:10 p.m. on July 5, when the men were found vandalizing the facility and smashing sprinkler heads on the 18th floor. Water flooded every floor below at a rate of 25 to 35 gallons per minute, forcing authorities to shut off the building’s power and elevators.
The 18th floor was declared uninhabitable, and detainees were evacuated. It cost more than $250,000 to clean up and replace damaged lighting fixtures, computers, and personal property, District Attorney Gerry Leone's office said.
Justin Deprospo, 25, David Agnetta, 31, and Stephen Andrade, 31, were indicted Thursday by a Middlesex Superior Court grand jury. They face a variety of charges, including malicious destruction of property over $250, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery on a correction officer.
The arraignment has not been scheduled.
