Ten arrested at BU frat party
Students imbibing amber-colored fluids at a Boston University fraternity party were a little too hospitable for their own good early this morning. They invited a plainclothes officer into the building, who got a good look at what was going on, and then called for reinforcements, Boston Police said.
The result: 10 arrests for underage drinking and disturbing the peace, police said in a statement.
Officers responded to reports of a loud party on Ashford Street in Allston around 12:50 a.m. Since officers have responded to the address several times in the past with little success, they tried sending a plainclothes officer into the house.
The officer was invited inside, where 75 to 100 partygoers were seen drinking from red plastic cups. Although many were underage, alcohol was “freely distributed without regard to age,” police said. A glass bong with marijuana residue was also visible, police said.
The plainclothes officer then opened the door for fellow officers. The crowd dispersed. Many of those who were caught were below the legal drinking age and under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Although the off-campus address is not recognized by BU as a fraternity house, it is home to several members of Chi Pi, a university spokesman said.
Students will be called in to explain their actions, Colin Riley said.
"The university holds all of its students accountable for any violations of the Code of Student Responsibilities, and that certainly would qualify," Riley said. "We have a long history of holding students accountable if they are a problem in the neighborhood or in any off-campus activities."
According to the school's Code of Student Responsibilities, possible university-imposed disciplinary action includes "sanctions up to and including expulsion of a student."
