Auto dealership fire causes $1M in damage

A fire ripped through a Volkswagen dealership in Beverly early today, causing more than $1 million in damage, according to fire officials.
The main building at North Shore Volkswagen was destroyed, along with the vehicles that were housed inside it. It was not immediately clear how vehicles on the lot were affected.
Fire officials were still searching the Park Street business for clues to how the blaze started, said Beverly Fire Lieutenant Eric Fowler.
The dealership claims to be one of the oldest VW outlets in the United States.
No one was injured in the fire, which started at about 5:30 a.m.
