Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8 tonight for Greater Boston
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for this afternoon and evening for most of Massachusetts and large chunks of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.
In a statement posted on its website, the NWS said some areas may see a small amount of hail falling during the storms. Shortly before 4 p.m., the NWS said, the storm was 10 miles west of Greenfield and "moving east at 60 miles per hour.''
The warning remains in effect until 8 p.m. tonight.
This afternoon, a Hyde Park woman was rushed to a Boston hospital after lightning struck her home.
Steve MacDonald, spokesman for the Boston Fire Department,said the woman was affected by the lightning but he did not know if it struck her.
He said firefighters responded to the scene in the 1500 block of River Street at about 4:20 p.m. Further details, including her age and condition, were not immediately available.
