Taking the boil message to the streets

Boston police officers drove down city streets this evening announcing the MWRA boil water order on their cruisers' loudspeaker systems in a citywide effort to spread the word.

On Bowdoin and Geneva Streets in Dorchester, two cruisers rolled through the busy intersection, repeatedly warning residents they must boil water for at least one minute before usage. Water must be boiled for drinking, cooking, baby formula, and brushing your teeth, the officers reminded people.
 
"A lot of people don't watch TV and some people don't listen to the radio. This way ideally, people who don't watch TV or don't listen to the radio could hear about the advisory," Officer Eddy Chrispin, a spokesman for the Boston Police Department, said.
