East Boston man held without bail for alleged domestic violence in Lynn

An East Boston man was ordered held without bail Wednesday after his arraignment in Lynn District Court on charges he tried to run over and kill his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend.

Roberto Lopez, 33, pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder and three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett's office.

Judge Ellen Flatley ordered Lopez held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing, scheduled for June 8.

He is accused of using his car to run down Vilma Rosalez, 28, of East Boston and Edwin Pineda, 28, of Somerville as they crossed Union Street. After striking the pair, police said, he backed up and hit them again, before getting out of his car and attacking Rosalez, kicking her several times.

Essex Assistant District Attorney Scott Dullea told the court that shortly before 10 a.m. yesterday on Union Street in Lynn, Lopez was behind the wheel of his Toyota Corolla when he allegedly struck the pair in front of a local pizza shop.

Rosales was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital where she was treated for a broken femur and patella. Pineda was transported to Salem Hospital with a serious leg injury. Both are expected to recover.

Lopez faces a maximum of 20 years in prison for each attempted murder charge plus 10 year for the assault charges.
