Engine fire forces plane to return to Logan after takeoff

A plane bound for Rome was forced to make an emergency landing this afternoon after one of its engines apparently caught fire shortly after taking off from Logan International Airport, officials said.
The Airbus 330, operated by Alitalia Airlines, had 250 people on board and managed to land safely. Airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said someone on the ground reported flames coming out of the engine on the left side of the aircraft.
No injuries were reported.
