State representative Robert Nyman found dead in pool at his home
Massachusetts State Representative Robert Nyman, 49, was found dead in a swimming pool at his Hanover home Friday night, authorities said.
Nyman had gone to a local golf course earlier in the day to participate in the planning of a charity event and returned home briefly and then went back to the course at
approximately 1 p.m., according to a statement from the office of Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.
It was not clear when he returned home again, but his family came home at about 8:30 p.m. and found him unresponsive in the family pool, according to the statement. The cause and circumstances of his death were not released.
In a brief telephone interview, Cruz said, "Right now the thing I'm focusing on is what a great guy he was, what a tragedy this is for Hanover. He's just a great guy. This is definitely a gray morning for the community."
Nyman was wearing a collared shirt and shorts when he was found, according to the statement. He was pulled from the pool by neighbors, one of whom attempted CPR. Hanover Fire Department took over rescue efforts on the scene, the statement said.
Nyman was transported to South Shore Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:02 p.m.
Foul play was not suspected and there was no sign of a struggle, according to the statement. The Nyman home was neat and orderly. An autopsy of the victim is being conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
Hanover Police declined to comment and referred calls to the District Attorney.
Nyman, a Democrat, has represented the fifth district since 1999, according to his website. Previously, he served as Hanover selectman and on the Plymouth County Charter Commission.
He served on the Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities, Joint Committee on Economic Development and Emerging Technologies and the Joint Committee on Financial Services, according to his website.
Nyman is survived by his wife, Rhonda, and two children.
