Lieutenant Governor Timothy P. Murray will spend a second night in a Worcester hospital as he recovers from illness and tightness in his chest after participating in a series of parades over the hot holiday weekend, the governor's office said.

“It is likely that his grueling holiday-weekend schedule, which included marching in five parades in extreme heat and doing yard work at his home, led to the brief illness,” said Kyle Sullivan, a spokesman for Governor Deval Patrick. “The lieutenant governor will be released on Wednesday and return to his regular activities.”

Murray, 42, marched in parades in Auburn and Sturbridge on Saturday, Plymouth and Duxbury on Sunday, and Chelmsford on Monday. He went to Saint Vincent Hospital on Monday night after falling ill.

“After a full battery of tests, including a stress test, doctors found the Lieutenant Governor Murray to be in good health,” Sullivan said. “Lieutenant Governor Murray and his family wish to extend a special word of thanks to the entire staff at Saint Vincent Hospital, all of whom have provided outstanding care.”

Hospital officials declined to answer questions about Murray’s condition.

Murray, a Worcester native, is married with two daughters.
