Man arrested in Thanksgiving Day fatal stabbing in Chelsea as police investigate another homicide
State Police arrested a man last night for fatally stabbing another man on Broadway Street in Chelsea on Thanksgiving Day, as authorities also investigate yesterday's discovery of a body in a Bellingham Street apartment.
Dennis Bowen, 22, of Chelsea will be arraigned Monday in Chelsea District Court on charges that he stabbed 30-year-old Carlos Ramirez, also from Chelsea, to death Thursday morning, said a spokesman for Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s office.
Bowen's attorney negotiated with police throughout the day yesterday and between 7 and 8 p.m. Bowen turned himself into police, after a Chelsea District Court judge issued a warrant for his arrest, Houghton said.
Bowen allegedly stabbed Ramirez once in the chest shortly before 11 a.m. outside 759 Broadway St. following “some type of altercation which we’re trying to piece together,” said Chelsea Police Captain Keith Houghton.
Several people witnessed the incident, according to Houghton.
“There were a couple of calls of a fight and one of a stabbing,” Houghton said.
State Police assigned to the district attorney’s office are looking into the relationship between Bowen and Ramirez as a “key element” of the investigation, Houghton said.
Ramirez was transported to Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett where he was pronounced dead, according to a joint statement from the Chelsea Police Department and the district attorney's office.
According to Houghton, Bowen has a "very limited" criminal record while Ramirez was well-known to police.
Police are also investigating the murder of an unidentified man in his 50s in his Bellingham Street apartment, according to a statement from Chelsea police and the district attorney's office. Officials have not released the victim’s name or cause of death.
Police responded to the scene at 12:26 p.m. Friday after the building’s owner discovered the man's body in his first-floor apartment unit, Houghton said.
The victim was found in the hallway of his apartment after a building employee contacted the owner after being unable to get into the unit for a scheduled cleaning, Houghton said.
The death was immediately ruled a homicide, Houghton said.
